(NewsInsights.org) – Former National Security Advisor John Bolton has delivered a scathing assessment of President Biden’s recent debate performance. In a column first published in The Telegraph on June 29, the outspoken Trump critic warned Democrats not to ignore the fact that the evening proved Biden is in “serious, potentially fatal political trouble.”
Bolton said the debate did little more than shine a spotlight on President Biden’s worst weaknesses, including Democrats’ current inability to believe in him. Although many of the commander-in-chief’s closest colleagues have dismissed the lackluster performance as nothing more than a once-off “bad night,” he saw it as a sign of greater impending doom.
“Without drastic, nearly unprecedented action now, they may be on the way not only to losing the White House but to significant losses in Senate, House, state and local races,” he said. These losses would further erode the party’s influence over every level of government at a time when they are already struggling against the stream.
It’s impossible to deny the fact that President Biden has repeatedly struggled with gaffes and outright fabrications over the past four years. From tripping on the way up the stairs while climbing onto Air Force One to asking Indiana Representative Jackie Walorski to respond from the audience six weeks after her death, he often appears tired and confused.
The national security expert was equally fierce in his shared thoughts on Donald Trump. He directly questioned whether either man was truly fit to serve in one of the most powerful positions in the free world and called the former president’s stance on national security dangerously “surreal” and disconnected from reality.
Bolton also outlined comments from the former and current president on the disastrous withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. He said both parties tried to deflect the blame during the debate despite playing an equal role in how it unfolded. “Trump negotiated surrendering Afghanistan to the Taliban,” he said, adding that “Biden implemented it.”
