(NewsInsights.org) – Tom Fitton, president of the conservative watchdog agency Judicial Watch, issued a press release on January 4, announcing he had filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Columbia against Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The suit alleges that the agency failed to respond to an October 11 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. In the suit, Fitton is asking for all records from the DHS’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) pertaining to Judicial Watch (JW) or Tom Fitton between January 1, 2019, and October 11, 2023.
In his announcement, Fitton said that his October request specifically asked that the responsive records include the email accounts of the CISA officials associated with the records. The JW leader requested that information for any officials “publicly implicated” in DHS’ censorship operations.
Fitton went on to explain that the records related to an interim report briefly entitled “The Weaponization of ‘Disinformation’ Pseudo-experts and Bureaucrats” from the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), released on November 6, 2023. The JW president said the report revealed how CISA and the State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC) coordinated with Stanford University and other entities to create the Election Integrity Project (EIP).
Fitton claimed that Big Tech and the government had repeatedly censored him and JW. He cited other examples of how the government used the EIP to pressure social media platforms like X, formerly Twitter, and Facebook, to censor what the program considered “disinformation.” Fitton also noted that he and JW had worked diligently to uncover censorship through FOIA requests and suits.
He ended his press release by announcing that Judicial Watch had filmed a four-part documentary entitled “Censored and Controlled.” The in-depth piece detailed JW’s investigation into coordinated programs between Big Tech, social media giants, and the government to suppress or censor categories of information.
