Prince Harry Leaves UK After Less Than 24 Hours

(NewsInsights.org) – Cancer diagnoses affect people differently, and everyone reacts individually, according to licensed clinical counselor Cheryl Fisher. In the British royal family, which has experienced its share of relationship issues in the past several years, the announcement of such a stunning diagnosis for King Charles III could act as a catalyst for reconciliation or further divide the family at a time when the monarch could most use its support. Reports indicate that Prince Harry left the United Kingdom less than 24 hours after seeing his father, the king.

After receiving the news on Monday, February 5, ahead of the public announcement, Prince Harry arranged to fly to London. Sources have indicated he made the decision unilaterally and didn’t travel at the king’s invitation. Leaving Los Angeles around 6:45 p.m. local time, the estranged royal traveled 10 hours and dealt with an 8-hour time difference, arriving in London at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

A car and staff met the prince and escorted him to Clarence House to meet with his father at 2:45 p.m. Insiders say that King Charles and Queen Camilla had planned to leave for Sandringham Palace earlier in the day but stayed at Clarence House to meet with Prince Harry. While those same sources indicated that Harry’s trip “touched” the king, the meeting reportedly only lasted 30 to 45 minutes before the king and queen took a helicopter to Sandringham.

Prince Harry stayed at a hotel in London overnight. He seemingly didn’t receive invitations to stay at any of the royal residences. Despite his layover, Harry didn’t meet with his estranged brother, Prince William.

As William returned to official duties on Wednesday, Harry returned to Heathrow Airport for a 3 p.m. flight to Los Angeles to return to his wife and children, arriving around 6 p.m. local time after approximately 11 hours of travel. While some may question whether investing nearly 22 hours of travel to visit with his father for less than an hour was a wise time investment, others see it as a significant step toward mending broken relationships.

Prior to releasing the cancer diagnosis to the public, a move for which King Charles reportedly strongly advocated, he personally notified Princes William and Harry. He also spoke with Princess Royal Anne and Princes Andrew and Edward. In part, the king wanted to inform the family first, but from a practical viewpoint, he needed to ask senior family members to help cover royal duties while he receives treatment. Doctors have requested that the king suspend public-facing engagements during his therapy.
