The agency faces many threats and evaluates each new issue as it arises. So, when a famous television personality from the 80s responded to President Joe Biden on social media with a controversial post that some interpreted as a call for his execution, the USSS took notice.
As of late Thursday afternoon, December 21, the USSS had opened an investigation into an online statement made by actor John Schneider, according to DEADLINE. The agency told the outlet it had become “aware” of Mr. Schneider’s comments but declined to comment on matters concerning “protective intelligence.” A confidential source said an inquiry was in the preliminary stages, and the agency investigates all threats to individuals under its protection.
It all started on Wednesday, December 20, after Biden posted his concerns on X, formerly Twitter, about Donald Trump running for President again. Biden stated his opinion that Trump posed several threats to the nation but listed the one he poses to democracy as the single most significant. He warned if America loses democracy, the country would “lose everything.”
Many people responded to the post, including Schneider in a since-deleted post. According to Newsweek, which provided a screen capture of the deleted post, the actor told Biden he thought he was a traitor and should face public hanging for his offenses. He added he felt Biden’s son was also guilty of treason and should face the same fate. The actor asked the president his thoughts and signed his name. However, he deleted the post soon after.
Some people reacted, telling Schneider he could expect a visit from the Secret Service soon for threatening the POTUS. Others called him “an American Hero” for having the courage to stand up to Biden.
The actor has denied threatening the president in any way. After finding out about the USSS probe, Schneider told DEADLINE he never said or implied violence toward the POTUS. Instead, he stated some of the nation’s leaders had “lost their way.” He believed corruption was at an all-time high because of that, as evidenced by activities at the country’s borders and its international dealings.
