(NewsInsights.org) – In December, a six-person jury rendered a split verdict in an assault case against actor Jonathon Majors, the Marvel actor who played Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” Former girlfriend Grace Jabbari accused Majors of attacking her during an argument that occurred on the street in New York in March. The panel found the actor guilty of misdemeanor reckless assault resulting in injury and second-degree harassment while acquitting him of intentional third-degree misdemeanor assault and aggravated second-degree harassment. On Monday, January 8, Majors spoke out about the guilty verdict.
The actor chose to speak exclusively with ABC’s Linsey Davis in New York in his first interview since receiving the verdict. When Davis asked Majors why he was talking about the case now, he responded that he felt like it was the right time because a lot had happened in his life he felt the need to show courage by coming forward to tell his side of the story.
Majors told Davis the verdict shocked him. In fact, one of his defense lawyers, Priya Chaudhry, issued a statement after the verdict, saying the jury obviously didn’t “believe Grace Jabbari’s story” regarding how events in the SUV played out because it agreed that “Mr. Majors did not intentionally cause any injuries to her.” Yet, despite that finding, the jury found Majors was reckless and unintentionally injured Jabbari during their altercation.
The actor described how he received a text message from another woman. He showed the message to Jabbari and alleged she tried to grab his phone. In the struggle for the phone, Jabbari’s middle finger became fractured. After retrieving the phone, Majors attempted to leave the SUV alone, but surveillance video from nearby showed Jabbari following.
Majors physically picked her up and pushed her back into the SUV, possibly hitting the back of her head in the process, but she scrambled after him again. The second time, Majors escorted her across the street to the sidewalk. But after crossing the street, Jabbari lashed out at Majors.
Majors physically ran away from Jabbari and went to a hotel for the night. When he went to check on her the next day, he called 911 after he found her unconscious, lying in her closet.
Marvel announced it was parting ways with Majors shortly after the jury handed down its verdict. The court scheduled his sentencing hearing for February 6.
