NFL Announces Pre-Game Performers

(NewsInsights.org) – Super Bowl LVIII (that’s 58 for those of us who can never remember the Roman numeral system) will take place on February 11. Las Vegas is hosting the event for the first time, and the NFL announced its lineup of star performers pre-game and for the halftime show at Allegiant Stadium.

Traditionally, the Super Bowl has opened the festivities with entertainment before the game begins by featuring three performing artists. Reba McIntyre will kick the event off this year by singing the national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.” McIntyre wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that she was proud to participate in the “historic” first in Las Vegas.

The famous star also pointed out that singing the national anthem was how she started her career 50 years ago. McIntyre sang the ballad in Oklahoma City at the 1974 National Rodeo Finals. Her post on X showed a picture from that long-ago rodeo captioned, “How I met y’all,” and a current picture of her on a Super Bowl poster captioned, “I’m still here.”

Following McIntyre’s performance, rapper Post Malone will perform “America the Beautiful.” Malone features a unique sound and style, blending genres and personalizing lyrics. The innovative performer also posted on X, inviting his fans to watch the Super Bowl and his live performance.

Rhythm and blues soul singer Andra Day will round out the pregame performance with her rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Day expressed her excitement about being part of the entertainment lineup in a post on X, saying she was “Grateful” for the opportunity to perform “the Anthem” at the event.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) adopted the song as its official anthem in 1919. The NFL began adding the hymn as part of its pregame routine in 2020 following months of racial unrest after the George Floyd murder.

Superstar Usher will perform at half-time. He issued a statement through the NFL saying performing at the Super Bowl will be “an honor of a lifetime. ” In September, the R&B phenomenon announced that the NFL had chosen him as the half-time entertainer. He told fans they could expect at least one major costume change, plenty of choreography, amazing guest performers, and roller skates.

Those who can’t find or afford Super Bowl tickets this year can still enjoy the festivities beginning at 5:30 CST on February 11 on CBS channels.
