Biden Confirms He Would Drop Out If Medical Issue Arises

(NewsInsights.org) – There have been many concerns that President Joe Biden doesn’t have what it takes to complete another four years leading the United States. Some lawmakers believe that he’s in mental decline and have called for him to step down so the Democratic Party can nominate a new candidate. So far, he has refused, but he recently confirmed that there are circumstances where he would step down.

In an interview that aired on Wednesday, July 17, BET host Ed Gordon asked Biden if there was “anything that [he] would look to” that would make him “reevaluate” his candidacy. The president said if he “had some medical condition that emerged … if doctors came to me and said you got this problem, that problem,” he would step down.

Biden also noted that none of his physicians had identified any medical issues that would keep him from running the country for the next four years. In February, the White House physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, wrote that the president is “a healthy, active, robust, 81-year-old male who remains fit” for his duties.

Yet, when Biden appeared on stage in June, face-to-face with former President Donald Trump in the first of two scheduled debates, he looked anything but. He had trouble stringing words together. He looked dazed. That prompted many people to say he doesn’t have the mental acuity to run again, let alone serve another term.

Then, in July, Biden appeared in front of the press in a rare showing, answering questions and generally trying to show the public he is okay. Unfortunately for him, that went less than stellar, as well. Earlier this month, he said if God told him to drop out of the race, he would. Then, he indicated that unless his team came to him with undeniable proof that he couldn’t win the race, he was staying put.
